Racing Handicaps

As of 2019, FYC dinghy racing will be scored using the UK handicap system, adapted at the discretion of the racing director to include classes not included in the system. Cat races will be scored as a separate race.  Keel-boat races will be scored using the US Sailing handicap system.

Calculating Finish Position

The race officer of the day is responsible for calculating the results of each race on the Race Management Sheet provided.
Make sure to identify the skippers and their class of boat clearly, and include the date on each result sheet. Please email the results, or a photograph of the results sheet to the Race Director at charles(AT)feaver.ca and pin the result sheet in the lower club house bulletin board. A

Each boat will be assigned the handicap indicated in the tables above for its class. The procedure for calculating the finishing time for each boat in the race involves calculating the adjusted race time by subtracting the minutes between the warning signal and the start signal from the total time, and applying the Handicap. An excel spreadsheet is provided below.

Adjusted Finishing Time in Seconds Divided by Handicap Number

e.g.  Laser adjusted time = 1 hr  6 mins 35.6 seconds

[[(60+6)60]+35.6]  / .911 = 4385.95 sec.

Make sure to identify the skippers and their class of boat clearly, and include the date on each result sheet. Please email the results, or a photograph of the results sheet to the Race Director at charles(AT)feaver.ca and pin the result sheet in the lower club house bulletin board.
